Mando Solutions

From Machine Operative to Site Manager: How Temp Work Built Allan’s Career

Temporary work is often seen as a stopgap – something you do between ‘real jobs’ rather than a genuine career path. Allan Tyson’s journey with Mando Solutions tells a very different story, and shows exactly how a temporary placement can grow into a lasting career.

Allan started with Mando Solutions back in April 2021. His initial placement was on a dozer, working for one of our Tier 1 clients on a major project at Chepstow Plant. From the outset, the relationship was about more than just filling a shift. As Allan puts it “As the project progressed, Mando Solutions were always checking in with regular calls to see if I was happy in my work and if I required anything more from them. I quickly realised that they truly do care about the operators”.

That ongoing support laid the groundwork for what came next. After several months on the project, Allan was made a Lead Driver – a role that plays an important part in keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly and helping the rest of the team deal with daily challenges. It was a clear early sign that consistent, reliable work on a temporary placement can open the door to genuine responsibility.

As Allan’s role developed, so did the investment in his future. Mando Solutions continued to put him through courses including geotechnical training, first aid and a range of other qualifications to support his growing leadership responsibilities – proof that temporary work, with the right agency behind it, can come with real career development rather than just a pay cheque.

By late 2023, Allan was running his own project for a major client as a supervisor, leading a strong team of operators. The project was delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards – another step in a career that had started on a single dozer placement two and a half years earlier.

After four and a half years with Mando Solutions, Allan was offered the opportunity to join Chepstow Plant as a Site Manager. Since then, he has delivered multiple projects and is now project lead for a major national client. Reflecting on his journey, Allan sums it up best: “What started out as a temporary placement has grown into a career with a clear pathway for progression and endless support, not only as an employee but as an individual”.

Allan’s story is exactly why we believe temporary work is so important. Not only does it give you a chance to build a track record fast, see how different sites actually run and try different roles before committing – it is a genuine route into skilled and senior roles.
